Column: Voter registration ends March 8; you know what to do

• Originally published in the Kane County Chronicle on March 5, 2011

The 2011 Consolidated Election will be here before we know it – April 5, in fact.

And if you have not registered to vote yet, you still have time, but not much.

The close of voter registration for the election is Tuesday. For information on how to register, call 630-232-5990 or visit http://www.kanecountyelections.org.

As voter registration comes to an end and early voting begins March 14, we here at the Kane County Chronicle are gearing into full election mode. We have plenty of contested races in the cities and villages we cover.

We’ll be sending out candidate questionnaires to those in contested races early next week and posting their answers on our website as soon at March 14. We’ll be previewing the races in the paper shortly after that.

Sure, municipal elections aren’t quite as juicy as the general elections in November, but it’s important to remember that the people being elected this April in many ways have more to do with how your taxes are spent and how the community around you is shaped than those in Springfield and Washington, D.C.

It’s our duty to inform you about the candidates as well as we possibly can.

We hope you will then choose to vote.
